President Moon Jae-in has thanked police for their efforts to reform and become respected and trusted by the people.
Speaking at an event to celebrate National Police Day on Wednesday,... he said the extra investigative rights granted to police have paved the way for independent probes and more responsibility.
President Moon noted that the police force has pushed for 330 reform tasks and systemized probes in a way that better protect human rights.
He called for thorough efforts in the establishment of the national investigation headquarters, saying the public will be able to gain more trust in the capacity of police.
President Moon said the government will also do its part to support the 15-thousand police officers and revamp regulations that may hinder law enforcement.
