अमेरिका में दो पार्टी का सिस्टम है पहली रिपब्लिकन और दूसरी डेमोक्रेट्स. दोनों पार्टियों को अपनी-अपनी तरफ से किसी एक व्यक्ति को राष्ट्रपति पद का उम्मीदवार बनाना होता है. लेकिन इस उम्मीदवार को चुनने से पहले भी एक लंबी प्रक्रिया है क्योंकि राष्ट्रपति तो हर कोई बनना चाहता है. लेकिन कोई उम्मीदवार कैसे बनेगा इसका चयन भी जनता या पार्टी के समर्थक करते हैं. एक बार पार्टी समर्थक अपने नेता को चुन लेते हैं तो फिर वो राष्ट्रपति पद का उम्मीदवार हो जाता है.
