Renowned Chinese respiratory disease expert Zhong Nanshan on Tuesday received the highest state honour for his outstanding contribution in fighting the Covid-19 epidemic.

He received the Medal of the Republic from Chinese President Xi Jinping in a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
