A fire brigade team has rescued an injured monkey that was left stranded in a reservoir in eastern India's Odisha.

The rescue operation was carried out on September 1 in Dharakote, Ganjam district.

Footage shows the rescue team of at least six people evacuating the monkey to safety.

The animal puts up resistance in the first few attempts but is successfully rescued later.

Rescuers secured the primate to a lifebuoy and helped it swim ashore.

Incessant rainfall has lashed Odisha for the last few days, and more rainfall is expected in the coming days, the weather office said.

As many as 17 people have died and over 10,000 houses were damaged in flood-related incidents in the state so far.

Over 14 million people have been affected due to floods in at least 20 districts, the Odisha government stated.
