Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney plans to launch a hedge fund focused on financial-sector stocks.
The firm is named Exegis Capital.
Mulvaney talked about the fund on S&P Global's "Street Talk" podcast.
He said the fund will leverage Mulvaney's experience in government to find opportunities linked to legislation and regulation.
He added that investors "like to think the market moves on fundamentals" but policy out of Washington plays an increasingly important role.
Mulvaney is now serving as special envoy to Northern Ireland.
He aims to open the fund on January 1 with investing veteran Andrew Wessel.
