IPID - COVID-19 halted court matters

Now police watchdog IPID blames the coronavirus for the delay in proceeding with some of the court cases arising from the Marikana massacre. IPID Acting Chief Director Thuso Keefe-lakae has told eNCA some of those matters were expected to sit in April, but had to be deferred due to COVID-19. Four police officers were arrested after an IPID investigation found they had concealed the circumstances of a mineworker's death. Keefe-lakae says IPID is busy with two other investigations. They have handed over dockets to the National Prosecuting Authority which is yet to make a decision on prosecutions.
