00:00I think, as of today, I have a little over a hundred plants. The last time I counted was in May.
00:06That was 105 back then, but I bought some other plants. I think there are up to 110, 115 probably?
00:14
00:15Hi, I’m Sam, I’m 28 years old, and this is my day with Cosmo.
00:25I think my love for plants began late last year when I decided to buy one pot of snake plant.
00:33This snake plant was intended for indoors, because I wanted to put some plants
00:39inside the house to make our house feel a bit more homey.
00:43These snake plants would survive in low light, and that area where I wanted to put my plant
00:49was in a corner in our house that didn’t receive much light.
00:53From that snake plant, I bought some pothos, and then it went on and on until I have this.
01:05I have a little over a hundred plants. The last time I counted was in May.
01:10That was 105 back then. After May, I bought some other plants. I think there are up to 110, 115 probably?
01:19And with regards to what people are going to find in my garden,
01:23I think they are going to see a lot of aroids, I really like how they look.
01:27I have very few flowering plants. I only have hoyas, and none of them have bloomed yet.
01:34I only have one fruit-bearing plant, and that is a calamansi.
01:38And I started planting seedlings, as well.
01:41I have arugula over here, I have a tomato, I have oregano. This is ampalaya.
01:46I have some various rubber trees. I have monsteras, I have philodendrons, I have anthuriums.
01:54But most of them are tropical plants. I find them really, really beautiful and very easy to care for.
02:05I wake up in the morning, and I drink my cold water. I do my skincare in the morning,
02:12and then I head straight back here.
02:14Not all of my plants require daily watering, so I don’t really have to do that with them.
02:20What I do, though, is I try to mist them all the time to maintain high humidity.
02:25And I just check for posts, I check for new growth.
02:28After I check on them, I go inside, check my socials, check my Instagram.
02:34I get a lot of inquiries on my Instagram on how to care for certain plants.
02:39And then after that, I check my YouTube—my analytics, my stats.
02:43After that, I play with my cat, ‘cause I recently adopted a cat.
02:53When the pandemic hit us and the lockdowns began,
02:55I noticed that there were a lot of people who were interested in collecting plants.
03:01I remember when I was a beginner plant collector, I always looked into YouTube
03:06for videos on how to care for certain plants, and I really enjoyed plant hauls.
03:12Then, I noticed that there weren’t really a lot of YouTubers or vloggers who talk about plants,
03:17so that’s why I decided to make Sam’s Halaman to talk about those things.
03:24And in a way, at least help my fellow plant collectors on how to care for plants that are available here in our country.
03:31And, I think that’s what makes my channel relatable to them.
03:34It is because I am also here in the Philippines, you know, we share the same weather, the same climate.
03:45Just take it day by day.
03:47Don’t be scared if a leaf turns yellow, or a leaf dies. It’s really part of the cycle.
03:52You’re gonna see new leaves, yes, that’s the most fulfilling feeling.
03:56You’re gonna see dying leaves, and that’s really all just part of it.
04:00Make sure to research about your plant, so that you would know how to care for them.
04:05Try to mimic their natural environment.
04:08I think it’s really nice that you get to know your plants, that way you’ll be able to tell if something is wrong with them.
04:15When you’ve done your research and you think you’re fully ready, get your first plant.
04:25This, believe it or not, the very famous Monstera deliciosa, is a very easy-care plant.
04:31Doesn’t require that much sunlight, not much humidity.
04:34Anyone can make a Monstera deliciosa thrive.
04:38Next one, you can get an aglaonema, this one. They will survive in any situation.
04:45They will survive rain, they will survive low-light, they will survive direct sunlight, so this is very beginner-friendly.
04:54And next is the Monstera adansonii, these are the Swiss cheese plants,
05:00the one that has holes on them, also those are very easy-care plants.
05:05You can get the ZZ plant.
05:07You can get the snake plant, like what I got for the first time.
05:11You can get pothos. These are my pothos, these are propagations from the mother plant.
05:18The mother plant is up here. It was trailing, so I decided to cut them and propagate some plants.
05:24These are some of the beginner-friendly plants I can suggest.
05:27They are very accessible in the market right now, in Instagram, on Facebook Marketplace.
05:32You can search for the names of the plants, and they’ll pop out.
05:42I think ever since I started collecting plants, I felt that I have a certain connection with them.
05:49And at the same time, when I tend to them, it makes me relaxed.
05:54And when I’m anxious, especially during this time, I get a pot of mother plant of any sort.
06:00I cut them, I propagate them.
06:02My plants are really important to me, and my family, my friends know that.
