S. Korea raises emergency warning level as heavy rain forecast

Have an umbrella handy this week because Korea is in for some heavy rainfall.
Heavy downpours have drenched many parts of the country since early this morning,… especially the central region.
South Korea's disaster authorities have raised its emergency warning with up to 150 millimeters of rain in the forecast until tomorrow morning.

Much of South Korea has been soaked by downpours and heavy rain warnings have been issued since Wednesday morning in many parts of the nation.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters has raised its emergency warning to the second highest level as of 12:30 PM on Wednesday as the cities of Daejeon and Gwangju... and Chungcheongbuk-do, Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do Provinces were issued with heavy rain warnings.
The Ministry of Interior and Safety says it has called on local governments and relevant authorities to focus on preventing potential damage from the deluge and to reinforce their disaster management system.
The ministry also urged at-risk areas to pre-emptively evacuate citizens and mobilize all resources to deal with the heavy rain.
An expert said, showers are expected to get stronger on Wednesday night in Jeolla-do and Chungcheong-do Provinces and the surrounding areas.
"Southern regions are expected to get heavy rainfall until Thursday. The central region is forecast to be under the monsoon front until this weekend or early next week."
The heavy rain on Wednesday destroyed vast stretches of crops and agricultural facilities and flooded roads in central and southern parts of the nation.
As further rain is expected, the national weather agency advised taking extra precautions on traffic safety and against landslides and floods.
