00:01:25During World War II, the German army was harassed by fierce Italian partisan fighters.
00:01:31Their leader, Il Pellegrino, was captured and jailed by the Nazis in the village of San Corrado.
00:01:37A surprise American attack on San Corrado forced the Nazi army to retreat,
00:01:42and in their haste, the military prison was abandoned.
00:01:45Aware that the Americans would soon release Il Pellegrino so that he could resume his underground activities,
00:01:51the German high command ordered a Captain Strobel to assume the role of an American soldier
00:01:57and to recapture or kill Il Pellegrino at any cost.
