The U.S. House of Representatives has approved its version of the National Defense Authorization Act on Tuesday, ...which includes restrictions on withdrawing American troops from South Korea.
The 740-billion-U.S.-dollar bill for fiscal year 2021 advanced with a bipartisan majority of 295 to 125.
The Senate version of the bill prohibits the use of authorized funds to reduce the total number of American troops stationed in South Korea unless the reduction does not undermine the security of U.S. allies in the region and those allies are properly consulted.
The House version added the condition that the move must prove to be proportionate to the reduction in threat posed by North Korea.
The bill will now move on for deliberation in the Senate.
