India on Monday banned 59 Chinese Apps, including the hugely-popular TikTok and UC Browser, saying they were prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country. The ban came in due to the tension at the India- China border and the killing of 20 Indian Army personnel in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley.
Though all the applications have been banned due to security concerns, Chinese Companies like Alibaba have invested in some of the top startup companies in India. The companies funded by Chinese investors include (Paytm, Flipkart, Zomato, Swiggy, Makemytrip, Big basket, Ola, Hike, Snapdeal, Oyo.)
(The startups might face hurdles due to this.) and Some industry insiders also feel that the (impact on early and growth-stage companies will be more profound compared to other companies.)
In 2019 alone, Chinese companies invested in about 19 projects from the IT and electronics sector in India.
The growing anti-china sentiment could cost Indian startups dearly. The phenomenal growth of India's tech startup ecosystem, which is now (the third largest in the world could be stunted if the Chinese funding into the country slows) in the aftermath of the military escalations in the border and the ban of Chinese applications.
