A large monitor lizard that strayed into a washroom was rescued after several arduous attempts.

The reptile was spotted in the female hostel of Tezpur University in the Sonitpur district of northeast India's Assam on July 7.

On receiving the information, a wildlife rescuer rushed to the spot with forest officials to rescue the wandering lizard.

Footage shows the rescuer struggling to cast a rope around the agitated lizard's neck in an attempt to restrain it.

He finally succeeds and takes the lizard away from its hiding spot, holding it carefully by the tail and neck.

The rescuer then proceeds to untangle the rope from the lizard’s neck cautiously, before releasing it into the wild. The reptile hurries into the woods after being released.
