Starfire - Starfire 1974 (USA, Psychedelic Rock, Heavy Prog)

Starfire is the First and only Album by the American Hard Progressive Rock Band Starfire.
Little is known about this Band and it's members, apart from the fact that they come from California. Starfire was released as a private pressing, with only 200 copies being recorded, and as many others, finding an original copy of it is almost impossible. It has been reissued on CD.
"Comfort Me", The opener, is full of energy, but misses some things. The Guitar Solo is pretty good and so is the Bass line, but the Drums sound is too low. It would have a lot more power if they had given the Drums a little more usage. "My Love Is Gone" is a quite boring ballad, consisting mainly of Keyboards. It has it's moments, like when it seems like they are starting a crescendo, but they continue on the same monochordic sound the whole 4 minutes. "Many Moods Ago" however, is a great song. With a far out Funk sound, and a very good Vocal work. The rhythm is the basis of this track. "Birth Of The Sun" I'm repeating myself, but Robert Sephton is a damn good Bassist in my opinion, and in this music that is again apparent. The Guitarist Robert Mitchell also dominates his Guitar. They managed to create a nice Dark mood for this song, for which i congratulate them. "Slippery" the lyrics of this one are quite amusing, The Vocals resemble Jimi Hendrix, in his song 'Foxy Lady'. "Merry Crises" the beginning of this track hides what is to come. A quick Psych song, fuelled by Keyboards, Bass and a distant Soloing Guitar. "To Wonder Life Alone" has a pretty good Jam on the middle of it, full of different Solos by different instruments.
