Sura Al Lahab
Naming
The word lahab (لَهَب) in the first verse has been taken as the name of this Surah.
The time of revelation
There is no disagreement among the commentators as to whether it is Makki. But it is difficult to pinpoint exactly when it was revealed in the Meccan period. However, the role of Abu Lahab against the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Islamic call can be deduced from the fact that this Surah was revealed at a time when he had crossed the line in his enmity with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his views and The policy was a major obstacle to the progress of Islam. It is not strange that this Surah was revealed when the Quraish socially boycotted the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his descendants and interned them in She'b Abu Taleb (Abu Taleb Pass) and only Abu Lahab abandoned his descendants and stayed with the enemies. The basis of our assumption is that Abu Lahab was the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). And the public condemnation of the uncle in the face of the nephew could not be justified until the injustice, oppression and excesses that transcended the limits of the uncle were openly exposed. If this Surah had been revealed at the beginning, people would have considered it morally flawed. Because it is not appropriate for the nephew to condemn the uncle in this way.
