A man was pushed into the Limehouse Basin in east London on Friday evening (June 26) after he intervened when a woman kicked out at mating swans.
The clip, filmed from an overlooking balcony, shows a group of youths congregating by the canal, with one girl lowering herself down towards the water and attempting to kick out at the pair of swans, which appear to be mating.
A man with a large pole then approaches the group in an attempt to remonstrate with them before a male youth in a blue T-shirt and cap appears from nowhere and shoves the man with the pole into the canal.
"A swan started either attacking or aggressively attempting to mate with another swan," the filmer told Newsflare. "Group of kids start attacking the swan [in a] misguided attempt to help. Man argues with the group. Man gets pushed in canal."
Animal charity the RSPCA is investigating the incident and wrote on Twitter: "If anyone has further information on these individuals, please contact us on 0300 1234 999. Thank you!"
