Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar finds resemblance in the style of batting of Virat Kohli and Sir Vivian Richards. Currently ranked 1 in ICC ODI rankings, Kohli has been compared with the like of Sir Viv Richards by Gavaskar, who claimed it was a tedious task to keep Richards quiet at the crease, which is the case with Kohli. Getting compared and that too with the likes of Sir Viv Richards is not something new with Virat Kohli. Earlier, former Australian skipper Ian Chappell had also lauded him with appreciation and drawn the resemblance between him and Richards.

विवियन रिचर्ड्स, विश्व क्रिकेट में ये नाम हमेशा जगमगाता रहेगा. ऐसा निडर और बेख़ौफ़ खिलाड़ी जो गेंदबाजों के लिए काल था, शायद ही फिर कभी क्रिकेट देख पाएगा. और भी खिलाडी आएँगे और जाएंगे, पर विवियन रिचर्ड्स एक ही था और एक ही रहेगा. पर बदलते वक्त के साथ विवियन रिचर्ड्स की तुलना नए-नए खिलाड़ियों से होती रहती है. उसमें से एक नाम विराट कोहली का भी जुड़ गया है. भारत के दिग्ग्ज बल्लेबाज सुनील गावस्कर ने कहा है कि भारतीय कप्तान विराट कोहली और विवियन रिचर्ड्स में काफी ज्यादा समानता है. गावस्कर के मुताबिक दोनों ही बल्लेबाजों की शैली एक जैसी है. गावस्कर ने बताया कि जिस तरह विराट कोहली आज बल्लेबाजी करते हैं, ठीक वैसे ही विवियन रिचर्ड्स भी मैदान पर चौके-छक्कों की झड़ी लगाते थे.
