Celebrating ‘Sardar’s (Leader’s) contribution in uniting India - a Statue of Unity was constructed on the banks of River Narmada. Statue of Unity is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950) who was the first deputy prime minister of India and the chief adherent of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent Indian Independence movement; highly respected for his leadership in uniting the 562 princely states of India to form the single large Union of India without any bloodshed. Citizens of India are grateful to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his immense contribution and to pay him respect through a traditional Guajarati folk song ‘garba’ specially created for him. People of Gujarat and entire India will always be under this great man’s obligation for his leadership and statesmanship.
