28:47that I'm reading it correctly. What it says right here,
28:49there is
28:51therefore no
28:53other foundation which can
28:55be laid other than the
28:57one which is in Christ
28:59Jesus. And so

29:33going with it is this, and
29:35it's been said more than a few times by
29:37me, and I've heard it well over the
29:39years, that Dave

29:51that's because if you have the
29:53Lord as number one in your life,
29:55the requirements that
29:57you have in how you treat Shelley
29:59will be well felt by her
30:01and she will get treated like a queen.
30:03And Shelley, the same thing. There's no
30:05other foundation which can be laid
30:07as to how
30:09your relationship with the Lord is
30:11imperative as to how you're going to treat
30:13Dave. And so this whole thing
30:15lies on a foundation of Christ
30:17and I'm so, so, so glad
30:19that everyone is on the same
30:21page with that. So with
30:23that said, we're going to
30:25move on and make sure
30:27that we do this
30:29correctly as if we were just
30:31walking down the aisle and the music
30:33just played and it's gotten
30:35nice and quiet and
30:37everyone's staring
30:39at the bride and
30:41the pastor
30:43says,
30:45who
30:47gives this bride to
30:49be married to this young man
30:51today? We do.
30:55Now
30:57there is a digital
30:59hug and a kiss between
31:01Dad and
31:03Shelley.
31:05So okay,
31:07David, Shelley,
31:09say wonderful and I'll get you back
31:11on the screen.

31:17So here we go.
31:19I'm not going to go off
31:21very long here, but what I do say is
31:23of extreme importance
31:25and so listen well and all you
31:27married people know that this is the case.
31:29And so I want to remind you guys
31:31of a couple of things,
31:33especially Dave and Shelley
31:35and maybe some of you guys listening too maybe don't know
31:37how this thing
31:39has transpired since day one
31:41and I don't know if you
31:43have ever thought about the fact that
31:45marriage and this institution
31:47that's ordained by God has
31:49and will be
31:51imperative in its importance
31:53not only in Genesis when he instituted
31:55it, but all the way
31:57until
31:59the summation of all
32:01things and I'll give you the example.
32:05The entire creation
32:07has been centered
32:09around the
32:11institution of marriage. So God thinks
32:13an awful lot about it and
32:15if you remember that he was
32:17the officiant in the very first wedding
32:19that ever occurred and that was with Adam
32:21and Eve and there was just two people
32:23and the officiant
32:25who was Yahweh himself
32:27and that was in the garden
32:29and so from there the next
32:31major marriage that occurred was with
32:33the Lord himself, God the
32:35Father and Israel.
32:37He took her to be a bride
32:39and because
32:41if you know the book of Hosea well
32:43you'll know that because of the
32:45disobedience of Israel
32:47and their obstinance and stubbornness
32:49that
32:51they were considered somewhat
32:53of a
32:55harlot and
32:57so because of their disobedience
32:59the next marriage that took place
33:01when the Lord saw to it
33:03that all the most important people
33:05would be at his wedding supper
33:07was the bride of Christ
33:09and so at the cross
33:11was the next marriage
33:13of which
33:15Christ formed the bride
33:17of Christ which is us, all of us believers
33:19and so believe it or not
33:21the consummation of
33:23that marriage
33:25of God and
33:27Christ, the second person
33:29the way that that
33:31works is the consummation
33:33will be at the wedding
33:35supper of the Lamb which
33:37will be clearly the biggest party that man
33:39has ever known so if you go
33:41from Genesis to Revelation you're going to understand
33:43that God has
33:45an awful lot
33:47at stake with the institution
33:49of marriage so this is a pretty
33:51holy thing whether it's on
33:53Zoom or whether we are in front
33:55of 300 people in a beautiful garden
33:57it doesn't have
33:59any bearing as the Lord witnesses
34:01this I know he'll be pleased
34:03so here's the thing
34:05I'm going to be
34:07reading a section out of a
34:09scripture from my
34:11it would be my dad's dad which is the
34:13patriarchal side of my family
34:15and I ended up with a Bible from him
34:17as the Lord would have it and it's the
34:19greatest Bible ever and so
34:21it was passed down to me
34:23and I usually
34:25read out of it whenever we do
34:27a wedding because
34:29I always think of the longevity
34:31that
34:33on the patriarchal side of my
34:35family my
34:37grandfather he was married
34:39to he out

34:57that Paul and Debra
34:59have been married about 30
35:01years and Lisa
35:03and I have been married coming up
35:05on 35
35:07I think we're going to be
35:09November we're going to be 35 years
35:11and so
35:13Kobe and Kirsten newly married
35:15Kurt and
35:17Lori you're the only one that I don't know
35:19how many years when you guys speak and tell us
35:21how many years you guys been married

35:33that is
35:35quite an entourage
35:37of longevity
35:39in marriage and so
35:41as you guys start off day number one
35:43I want to make sure
35:45that you realize that you're surrounded
35:47by a bunch of people and the reason by
35:49the way that we're all here
35:51it's certainly
35:53not for a good meal even if there was
35:55one it certainly is because
35:57we are witnesses to what
35:59you guys are about to promise to each other
36:01and so the whole thing is
36:03witnessed by all your friends
36:05and your family which is the greatest thing ever
36:07and
36:09our ability to
36:11both encourage you and hold you in account
36:13as you look around and see the longevity
36:15that you have
36:17around you for marriage
36:19is a good thing and so
36:21it's pretty rare and I know that you guys
36:23know that as well that there's not
36:25a whole lot
36:27of people with that longevity
36:29and the lack
36:31of divorce and the dear love
36:33for each other so know that you're
36:35surrounded well
36:37so that's that
36:39end of it I want
36:41to read you something too that I wrote
36:43for a wedding I was pretty proud of this
36:45it's just because it sums up
36:47and it's not unlike what I just told you about that
36:49the
36:51way that the Lord has
36:53held marriage in such
36:55high esteem from Genesis
36:57to Revelation and so
36:59I wrote this out and I'm
37:01pretty sure it was at a friend's
37:03wedding about a year and a half
37:05ago and here's what it
37:07is I'm going to read it so I don't butcher it
37:09so
37:11in my
37:13honor for God
37:15and my
37:17love to see what
37:19he has stored up for us in the future
37:21it kind of makes me
37:23look back to Genesis
37:25and head for Revelation again
37:27and here's a summation of what
37:29he's got going God makes an everlasting
37:31marriage covenant
37:33with the Jewish
37:35people their unfaithfulness
37:37opens the door for his bride to
37:39come from every tribe tongue and
37:41nation through Yeshua the Messiah
37:43the
37:45Jews repentance and receiving
37:47of Messiah
37:49in the future will
37:51pave the way for the greatest party in history
37:53the marriage supper of the
37:55Lamb so you see the
37:57Lord is honored every time a faithful
37:59and godly marriage is lived out
38:01and so your example
38:03that you guys have around you
38:05so be super grateful for that
38:07and don't be afraid to ask for advice and don't
38:09be afraid to
38:11to look for a
38:13hand up and over the
38:15years I'm sure as we see you guys
38:17grow in your relationship
38:19with each other
38:21we'll be more than willing to share that
38:23so I'm going to read something out of
38:25Ephesians chapter 5
38:27and what I'm going to read I would
38:29consider it I know you've heard it before I'll bet
38:31you've heard it a hundred times especially
38:33that's been married and
38:35so as you hear
38:37what the Lord has got to say in the scripture about
38:39now this is I'm going to consider
38:41a treatise on marriage
38:43it's comprehensive
38:45but it's not exhaustive
38:47because the scripture has a ton
38:49of stuff to say about marriage
38:51and I'm going to read it out of my grandpa's bible
38:53and so
38:55it's Ephesians chapter 5
38:57so that you know where I'm reading
38:59from and again not
39:01exhaustive but you want to talk about
39:03important and it just lays again
39:05it
39:07relays another layer
39:09of block on a foundation
39:11that's already there in Christ so here we go
39:13wives submit yourselves unto
39:15your husbands as
39:17unto the Lord for
39:19the husband is the head of the wife
39:21even as Christ is the head
39:23of the church and
39:25he is the savior of that body
39:27therefore as the
39:29church is subject unto Christ
39:31so let wives be subject to their own
39:33husbands in everything
39:35so then husbands
39:37love your
39:39wives even as
39:41Christ has
39:43loved the church and gave himself
39:45for her that
39:47he might sanctify and
39:49cleanse it with a washing
39:51of water by the word
39:53that he might present it to himself
39:55the glorious church
39:57not having spot or wrinkle
39:59or any such thing
40:01that it should be holy and without
40:03blemish so
40:05ought men to love their
40:07wives as their own bodies
40:09he that loves his wife
40:11loves himself
40:13for no man ever hated his own flesh
40:15but he nourishes and cherishes
40:17it even as the Lord
40:19Christ and the church
40:21for we are members of his body
40:23and of his flesh
40:25and of his bones and for this
40:27cause a man shall leave his father
40:29and his mother and be joined into
40:31his wife and the two
40:33will become one flesh
40:35and so there's
40:37a good foundation
40:39about
40:41how God
40:43views a chain of command and
40:45it's very complimentary
40:47and it's not
40:49anything to be lorded
40:51over each other
40:53but it is complimentary
40:55and so with that said
40:57I want to make
40:59sure that as you
41:01guys
41:03say your vows to each other
41:05the ones that we're going to read
41:07and since we didn't practice at all
41:09we had no rehearsal here
41:11I'll
41:13I'll say them
41:15and then you guys can
41:17repeat to each other as you're looking
41:19each other in the eye and where they came from
41:21you guys know well where they came from
41:23they came from the common book of prayer in the 1500's
41:25and it's not scripture
41:27but I can tell you that it
41:29certainly is scriptural
41:31and they are very
41:33high quality and I want to make
41:35sure that as you say them
41:37take it to heart
41:39because this is really a
41:41big deal and I often think
41:43over the years
41:45as we've seen people have
41:47problems in their marriage
41:49that maybe they needed to
41:51revisit
41:53these book of common prayer vows
41:55and think of
41:57how solemn that they are
41:59and so as
42:01you repeat them to each other
42:03and I'll tell you what we'll do
42:05is we'll go
42:07we'll go Dave

42:13and I want you
42:15to really like listen
42:17to the words they're super short
42:19but they are
42:21spot on so
