Research Model Shows Link between Herpes And The Development Of Alzheimer's Disease
Engineered models of the human brain infected with the herpes virus develop Alzheimer's characteristics.
According to UPI, the new research analysis was published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances.
Researchers used a 3D human-tissue model of the brain to investigate the link between herpes and Alzheimer's disease.
They found a possible causal relationship between sporadic Alzheimer's disease and Herpes Simplex Virus-1.
There are two types of herpes simplex virus; HSV-1 and HSV-2.
Both viruses are referred to as "herpes," but HSV-1 causes sores around the mouth, while HSV-2 causes sores around the genitals.
