New Zealand duo rescue sheep trapped in rocks as they hunt for fossils

This duo managed to rescue a sheep trapped in some rocks while on a fossil hunting trip on January 2.

Morne, Mamlambo on YouTube, and Craig, a palaeontologist, spotted the animal lodged in a coky crevice unable to move.

Morne, the filmer, told Newsflare: "Myself and Craig were on an overnight fossil hunting trip in remote New Zealand, on the look for a penguin fossil.

"We didn't find anything for 2 days and then came across a sheep that had been stuck in a rock crevice for at least two days. We rescued it and it joined the flock on top of the hill, after recovering from what I suspect was the worst case of pins-and-needles ever!

We must have got some good karma because soon afterwards we find a very rare penguin fossil that is now being studied and might be a significant scientific find.

"We are unsure of the species but Craig is busy scanning it in an advanced scanner which he will then use to 3D print the bones without having to remove the rock."
