The third Ekadashi of the Hindu year i.e. Vaishakh Krishna Ekadashi is known as 'Varuthini Ekadashi' (Varuthini Ekadashi). Varuthini Ekadashi has great significance in North India and Dakshina India. On this day, the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu is worshiped. It is believed that observing this fast brings virtue and good fortune. Also, the creator of the universe Shree Hari Vishnu protects the devotee himself. Those who want to keep the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi, they should follow the rules of fast from the day of Dashami. Then one day after Ekadashi, that is, Dwadash should be fasted with complete legal practice. It is said that all sins are destroyed by the brilliance of the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi.

हिन्‍दू वर्ष की तीसरी एकादशी यानी वैशाख कृष्ण एकादशी को 'वरूथिनी एकादशी' के नाम से जाना जाता है. वरूथिनी एकादशी का उत्तर भारत और दक्षिणा भारत में बड़ा महात्‍म्‍य है. इस‍ दिन भगवान विष्‍णु के वामन अवतार की पूजा की जाती है. मान्‍यता है कि इस व्रत को करने से पुण्‍य और सौभाग्‍य मिलता है. साथ ही सृष्टि के रचय‍िता श्री हरि विष्‍णु स्‍वयं भक्‍त की रक्षा करते हैं. जो लोग वरूथिनी एकादशी का व्रत रखना चाहते हैं उन्‍हें दशमी के दिन से ही व्रत के नियमों का पालन करना चाहिए. फिर एकादशी के एक दिन बाद यानी कि द्वादश को पूर्ण विधि-विधान से व्रत का पारण करना चाहिए. कहते हैं कि वरूथिनी एकादशी के व्रत के प्रताप से सभी पाप नष्‍ट हो जाते हैं.
