Hot Cross Buns
Homemade hot cross buns are delightfully delicious and very easy to make.
Ingredients
Yeast 1 tsp
Sugar 1 tsp
Flour 3 & 1/2 cups
Salt ½ tsp
Butter 1 Tbsp
Raisins 1/2 cup
A little oil
Nutmeg a pinch
Flour 2 Tbsp
A little honey
Method:
Add the yeast and sugar to warm water. After 15 minutes add this mixture to the flour. Then add salt and butter to the flour. Knead and also add raisins and a bit of nutmeg. Let it to rise for an hour. Then punch down the dough and form 12 balls. Rest these for 30 minutes.
Take 2 tbsp of flour and form a paste with water to make the crosses on the buns. Brush the dough with egg wash and then make crosses on the dough with the flour mixture.
Bake in a preheated oven for 15 – 20 minutes at 180 degrees Centigrade. To glaze drizzle warm honey on the buns.
