This is the terrifying moment a thick cloud of grey smoke from a grass fire was blown across a farmer's field.

Locals were battling the blaze caused by soaring temperatures and dry land in Roi-Et, northeastern Thailand on Wednesday (March 11) afternoon.

A sudden gust of wind caused a bizarre 'fire storm' with the smoke from the fire spinning like a tornado as it zipped across the field.

The firestorm continued to blow over fields and burn for more than four hours before the firefighters could extinguish it.

Village official Banwit Nomnan said the firestorm fields across two sub-districts.

He said: "The wind was so strong that it was hard to control the fire, it blew and burned more than 276 acres across two sub-districts.

"Fortunately, there were no casualties and no properties damaged only the dry fields suffered from the fire."
