A short clip from Nishikawa-san's first travel documentary: the road to Jomon-Sugi.

A little bit of background: Jomon Sugi is located on the island of Yakushima in Japan. Rediscovered in the 1960's, it and the rest of Yakushima's forests are now a protected national park. Jomon Sugi is said to be the oldest tree in Japan, as estimates put it to be at least 2,000-3,000 years old, but possibly as old as 7,200 years. While not the tallest tree, it has a massive trunk which allowed it to escape logging during the Edo period. With a height of 25.3 meters, a trunk circumference of 16.2 meters, and an overall volume of approximately 300 cubic meters, it is one of the largest and oldest sugi trees on the island and in Japan.
