The Super Bowl History of the Kansas City
Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers On Feb. 2, the Kansas City Chiefs and
the San Francisco 49ers will face off in
Miami, Florida, for Super Bowl LIV. For the Chiefs, it will be their first
Super Bowl appearance in 50 years. They last faced off against
the Minnesota Vikings in 1970,
emerging victorious, 23-7. Previously, the Chiefs made their Super Bowl debut
in 1967, losing 10-35 against the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers have a much more extensive Super Bowl
history, having made seven total appearances in the
championship game, including this season. Under the leadership of star quarterback
Joe Montana and legendary head coach
Bill Walsh, they won their first Super Bowl in
1982, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-21. Walsh and Montana went on to lead the 49ers
to two more Super Bowl wins in 1985 and 1989. In 1990, the 49ers crushed the Denver Broncos,
55-10, led by veteran quarterback Montana and
the team’s new head coach, George Seifert. The 49ers then won Super Bowl XXIX in
1995, beating the San Diego Chargers 49-26. In 2013, the 49ers experienced their first
Super Bowl loss to the Baltimore Ravens, ending
the game with a nail-biting score of 31-34.
