A wild elephant stormed out from the edge of a forest onto a busy road in the north Indian state of Uttrakhand, chasing cars and terrifying the drivers.

The incident took place on January 16 near the Rasiyabad Forest Range en route the Haridwar-Najibabad National Highway.

Visuals, filmed by a commuter, show the elephant suddenly exiting the forest fringes and chasing a car traversing the highway road.

The unexpected appearance of the animal scared the other travellers as they were seen quickly reversing their vehicles, making way for the animal.

Meanwhile, the elephant stops chasing the fleeing automobile and pauses for a moment in the middle of the road, searching for its next target.

Reportedly this was not the first time that the this elephant has caused havoc and disturbed passengers on the national highway in this area.
