The fires in Australia have killed more than 480 million animals, including mammals, birds and reptiles. Those who have died, directly or indirectly, from the flames that have devastated over 3 million hectares of New South Wales. But it's the situation of the koalas that is of particular concern, whether they are in captivity or released, they will have to struggle to adapt to their new habitat. Since they're not the easiest creatures to readapt. So the marsupials saved cannot be moved to another area. The destruction of the koala's habitat means that they are likely to have difficulty reproducing, particularly in the regions of New South Wales. The Nature Conservation Council estimates that a third of the current koala habitat on the north coast of the state has been destroyed. The Northeast Forest Alliance estimates that this destruction has killed more than 2,000 koalas.
