The fourth episode of the IMJIN WAR, based on my book “The Imjin War: Japan’s Sixteenth-Century Invasion of Korea and Attempt to Conquer China.” Last week, the spearhead contingents of Hideyoshi’s army, under Konishi Yukinaga, Kato Kiyomasa and Kuroda Nagamasa, landed at Busan and secured a beachhead for the Korean invasion. This week, the Gyeongsang Navy under commanders Bak Hong and Won Gyun fail to stop them...and worse. Konishi and his first contingent set out for Seoul, Kato Kiyomasa and his men hot in pursuit. The two rival daimyo want to reach the capital first. Generals Yi Il and Sin Ip race down from Seoul to stop them. Battles will follow at Sangju, and at Tangumdae, aka the Battle of Chungju. Down on the Cholla coast, meanwhile, navy commander Yi Sun-sin gets ready to fight.
