North Korean leader Kim opens socialist utopian resort and warns US about a ‘Christmas gift’

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has opened the new Samjiyon mountain resort which is being hailed as a “socialist utopia”. State media reports on December 3, 2019, showed Kim visiting the site near the country’s sacred Mount Paektu. His second trip to the symbolic mountain in less than two months was seen as an indication of a possible policy change as an end-of-year deadline approaches for Pyongyang to reach a nuclear deal with the US.
