Nearly 700,000 People to Lose
Food Stamps With USDA Rule Change.
The Trump Administration
finalized new work requirements
for those on the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program.
The original rule required those between
the ages of 18 and 49 who are childless
and not disabled to work at least 20 hours
a week for more than three months.
The new rule restricts states from waiving the
requirement in areas with high unemployment
and instead requires a 6 percent unemployment rate.
The USDA claims the change will save the
government $5.5 billion over five years.
The change is set to go
into effect April 1, 2020
