Philippine-born naturalized Korean Jasmine Lee, who formerly served as a lawmaker for the predecessor of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party, has returned to the political scene, now as a member of the left-wing Justice Party
At the National Assembly on Monday, the Justice Party chief officially announced that Lee had joined the party and tapped her as the chief of the party's human rights committee.
In her inauguration speech, the former lawmaker vowed to speak up for the basic rights of foreign immigrants and multicultural families living in Korea, stressing that discrimination still exists.
Lee said she hopes to act as a chain between immigrants and Koreans so that both sides can understand each other.
