Thai locals prepare for the country's annual Loy Krathong festival in which they honour the "Goddess of Water".

The colourful event, taking place this year on November 11, sees millions of people around the country float ornately decorated baskets into lakes, rivers and into the sea.

They believe that the offerings to the water spirit will bring them good luck over the next year.

Footage from the Ratchada district of Bangkok today (November 8) shows families preparing their floral tributes for the event as well. They were also making bright Chinese fire lanterns, which are released into the sky.

Chefs were handing out free plates of Pad Thai, one of the country's most popular dishes, while children made wax flowers to use at the event.

Other Loy Krathong baskets included animals and flowers made from recycled plastic bottles.
