From Quito: Indigenous Groups Propose New Ecuadorean Economic Model

In today's program, an alternative economic model for Ecuador. That's what the indigenous movement, CONAIE, has drawn up along with 180 other movements and organizations. It's their response to the government's plans to introduce a new decree to replace decree 883, which was struck down after a two-week uprising. Indigenous leaders say they will not accept any new decree which repeats the IMF dictates of austerity and fuel price rises. To discuss this, we are pleased to have with us Natalia Greene, president of CEDENMA, the coordinating body of Ecuadorean environmental NGO's and she herself took part in the people's parliament, which drew up that alternative proposal.
