This is the terrifying moment people ran for their lives after a riverbank collapsed.

Electrician Thanathip Surasai, 30, was repairing a temple in Udon Thani, Thailand on Tuesday (October 8) when he felt the ground shaking.

Footage from the scene shows how locals fled to safety as Thanathip shouted to warn the visitors to stay away from the river shore.

The landslide caused the shore to sink down to the river while the structured built there collapsed into the water.

Thanathip said that he was shocked to see people running for their lives. He said: "I came to substitute new electronic equipment for the temple after the floods.

"I noticed the land started to sink down then I ran up and shouted to warn other people. It was a really scary moment for me because people could have hurt.

"Luckily, the land sunk slowly and there was enough time for people to escape otherwise they could have been seriously injured."

The landslide is believed to have been caused by recent floods in the province that left the soil soft and weak.
