Man gets burned after falling into Old Faithful thermal water

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — A 48-year-old man got a bit overly toasted after he fell into thermal water near Old Faithful.
The National Park Service said in a statement that Cade Edmond Siemers went out for a little leisurely stroll Sunday night.
The NPS statement said, Cade told park rangers that he wandered off the boardwalk without a flashlight and tripped into the thermal water near Old Faithful cone.
According to CNN, Yellowstone clearly states on their website that visitors are to always remain on the boardwalks.
The statement went on to say, "the ground in hydrothermal areas is fragile and thin, and there is scalding water just below the surface."
Siemers, who currently lives in India, was able to make it back to Old Faithful Inn, where he was staying to call for help around midnight.
According to the statement, park rangers thought there were signs he had been drinking. Park authorities later discovered a beer can near the geyser, one of Cade's shoes, and footprints going back and forth from the geyser.
According to NBC News, he was transported to the Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. The AP reports he was in critical condition on Monday.
Park officials said the water at the pool where Siemers took a dip measured around 150 degrees Fahrenheit when they tested it in August.
Leaving the boardwalk around Old Faithful is punishable to up to six months in prison and a $5000 fine.
Park officials are now assessing any damage to the geyser cone. These results will then be given to the U.S. Attorney's Office to see if any criminal charges will be filed.
