Judge Rules in Favor of
Harvard University in
Affirmative Action Case Federal District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs
has decided that "ensuring diversity at Harvard
relies, in part, on race conscious admissions." Students for Fair Admissions sued
the university in 2014, alleging that
Asian-American applicants were
being discriminated against. SFFA leader Michael Blum argued that
Asian-American applicants are held
to a higher standard and, therefore,
less likely to receive admission. Blum previously challenged the affirmative action
program at the University of Texas at Austin,
though the Supreme Court sided with the university. Legal experts anticipate SFFA to appeal,
meaning Blum’s case could once again
reach the Supreme Court.
