Colt Announces Suspension of AR-15
Production for the Civilian Market
.
The gun-making company announced their
decision to suspend rifle production, including
the AR-15, for the civilian market on Sept. 19.
According to Dennis Veilleux, the chief executive
officer of Colt, the decision is being made due
to an over-saturation of the rifle market.
The market for modern sporting rifles has
experienced significant excess manufacturing
capacity…Given this level of manufacturing
capacity, we believe there is adequate supply for
modern sporting rifles for the foreseeable future, Dennis Veilleux, via statement
.
The decision is also reportedly due to Colt’s
need to focus on fulfilling their contracts
with military and police customers. .
Our warfighters and law enforcement personnel
continue to demand Colt rifles…Currently,
these high-volume contracts are absorbing all
of Colt’s manufacturing capacity for rifles, Dennis Veilleux, via statement
.
Veilleux went on to reaffirm Colt’s dedication to
the Second Amendment, saying they would instead
focus on expanding their pistol and revolver lines. .
Colt has been a stout supporter of the Second
Amendment for over 180 years, remains so,
and will continue to provide its customers with
the finest quality firearms in the world.  , Dennis Veilleux, via statement
