Dozens of tigers have died since rescue from Thailand’s notorious Tiger Temple

More than half of the 147 tigers rescued from Thailand’s Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua temple in 2016 have died while in government custody.  The animals reportedly died from canine distemper, a viral disease that causes breathing and eating difficulties, and they may have been more vulnerable to illness because their immune systems were weakened by extensive inbreeding.  But some conservationists are questioning the care they received at state-run sanctuaries.
