Thousands witness Good Friday crucifixion rites in Pampanga

Nearly 20 Filipinos and a Danish national were nailed to crosses in the province of Pampanga to reenact the crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday. A Danish filmmaker flew all the way to San Fernando, Pampanga to take part in the annual ritual. At least 50,000 spectators trooped to Barangay San Pedro in San Fernando to witness the series of crucifixions. The Roman Catholic Church has found the self-punishments of penitents as an extreme display of devotion and a misinterpretation of faith. ANC, April 19, 2014
