MANILA, Philippines – The UFC has parted ways in veteran fighter Thiago Silva, who remains detained over assault charges. In a statement, the UFC said it has terminated Silva’s contract, effective immediately. Silva was arrested in Florida after threatening to kill his estranged wife and others at a local martial arts gym. He later fled to his home and had a long standoff with a SWAT team. The Brazilian-born heavyweight was supposed to fight at UFC 171 next March. News Now, ANC, February 9, 2014.
