Wawrinka knocks Djokovic out of Aussie Open

The Australian Open will have a new champion for the first time since 2010. Stanislas Wawrinka ended Novak Djokovic’s three-year reign at Melbourne Park, closing out a five-set classic at the Rod Laver Arena to dump the Serb from the Australian Open quarter-finals. The eighth-seeded Wawarinka played out of his skin to upset his Grand Slam nemesis in an exhilarating four hours. Wawrinka stayed cool in the deciding set, sealing the win when the former world number one pushed a shot wide on match point. With the win, Wawrinka blew the tournament wide open, setting up a semi-final with Czech Tomas Berdych while snapping the Serb’s 28-match winning streak. -- Mornings @ ANC, January 22, 2014.
