MANILA, Philippines – A cargo ship sank in the Guimaras Strait early Sunday morning after crashing into another vessel. MV Sportivo sank after it crashed into another vessel, MV Giana, around 5:15 a.m., which created a hole into its side. The Coast Guard rescued the 29 crew members of the cargo ship. MV Sportivo was carrying 28,000 sacks of fertilizer that were to be delivered to Palawan. The cargo ship spent the night at Guimaras Strait due to the bad weather brought about by tropical depression “Agaton,” but strong waves and winds caused its anchor to snap, eventually leading to its collision with MV Giana. The incident is now being investigated. Report from Nony Basco, ABS-CBN News Central Visayas
