MANILA, Philippines – In tennis, China’s Li Na gave Ekaterina Makarova not so much as a sniff of an upset as she demolished the Russian in just under an hour. The women’s fourth seed next faces Flavia Penneta in a last eight clash of 31-year-olds. Li thought her path to the final would be blocked by world No. 1 and top-seed Serena Williams. That’s until Serbian Ana Ivanovic secured the biggest shock of the tournament with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over the American on Rod Laver Arena. Ivanovic’s victory blew the race for the Australian Open women’s title wide open. Ivanovic will meet Canada’s Eugenia Bouchard in the quarter-final. -- Mornings @ ANC, January 20, 2014.
