Dinky denies food donations sold in Manila stores

MANILA - Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman has issued a clarification on food donations supposedly from the United Kingdom that are reportedly being sold in Manila. She said only tents from the UK-based aid group Shelterbox are consigned to the Department of Social Welfare and Development while the rest of the UK government's donations are consigned to non-government organizations. Soliman also said they are looking into reports that the meals ready-to-eat (MREs) from the United States military are being sold in local stores. "I have asked for them to search the Facebook that was supposed to be exposing this and I wanted to find out where and how," she said. "I don't know where these MREs are coming from but they have not definitely been donated to us." Mornings@ANC, December 11, 2013
