Why gov't doesn't give bigger relief packs

MANILA - TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva on Tuesday explained why the government does not give relief goods that would last up to seven day to survivors of super typhoon "Yolanda." "When you give out relief goods, you don't know the weather. In Tacloban for example, it rains a lot so kapag nabasa din yun hihingi lang ulit," he said in an interview on ANC's Headstart. He said the Cebu distribution center is tasked with repacking 275,000 food packs every 2 days. Each food pack contains 6 kilos of rice, 10 assorted canned goods (sardines, meat loaf, corned beef, etc) and 6 sachets of coffee. He also said the Cebu hub does not repack foreign donations. "We don't repack foreign donations. We only center on government procured goods. We are giving it to DSWD (the donations) because we don't have the center that sorts or processes the goods," he said.
