Foundation gives cash for Tacloban cleanup TACLOBAN CITY - A private group is helping Taclobanons by giving residents money to clean up the city. Ferdinand Dy of Tzu Chi Foundation said each resident who signs up for the cash-for-work program is paid P500 a day to clean up Tacloban. He noted that the cleanup is important to prevent the spread of disease. "We are just inspiring the people to clean up and get paid while doing it. If they wait for relief, pretty soon all the NGOs will be leaving and the city will still not be cleaned up," he said in an interview on ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda. He said the foundation has already given cash to 16,000 residents since last week. The residents can then use the money to buy their basic necessities. The same program was also implemented in Ormoc, Leyte, he said. Dy said cash was also given to residents for the rebuilding of their homes. ABS-CBN Umagang Kay Ganda, November 26, 2013
