Federer secures place in world finals

MANILA, Philippines – Former world No. 1 Roger Federer booked his place in the ATP World Tour Finals after dismissing South African Kevin Anderson to reach the third round of the Paris Masters. The Swiss, who started the week in seventh place in the ATP race to London, made sure of finishing in the top nine, which was the cut required after British world No. 4 Andy Murray pulled out because of back surgery. This is the 12th consecutive time Federer has qualified for the event, the same record held by Ivan Lendl for the most successive appearances at the season-ending event. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Juan Martin del Potro and Tomas Berdych have already qualified. -- Mornings @ ANC, October 31, 2013.
