14 mayors in Malampaya scam snub summons

MANILA - Fourteen mayors have yet to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after they were sent subpoenas last month in connection with the so-called Malampaya fund scam. They were among 97 mayors who reportedly received money from the Malampaya fund. The Commission on Audit (COA) sent letters to the same 97 mayors last year. The COA letters inquired if the mayors received farm implements amounting to P10 million. The project was requested through the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), using the Malampaya fund. According to the whistleblowers, there were no deliveries made. The projects were coursed through the fake nongovernment organizations allegedly formed by businesswoman Janet Napoles.
