China has decided to give 1 million tons of food assistance to North Korea after President Xi Jinping's visit to the regime in June.
That's according to Tokyo-based Asahi Shimbun on Tuesday, citing South Korean government officials and North Korea-China traders.
After the summit with Kim Jong-un in June, Beijing decided to give North Korea 1 million tons of food aid to North Korea, including corn and 800-thousand tons of rice.
And thanks to that temporary relief, the paper suggested the North might be even harsher towards South Korea.
Seoul had offered to provide 50-thousand tons of rice to the North via UN's World Food Programme, but the regime rejected it citing the Seoul-Washington joint military exercise.
