The world could sure use a break from all the negativity and have a bit more happiness right now, and Montel Williams Jr. is doing all he can to make it happen. He is a young man on a plausible mission to be a beacon of love and light while taking his message to the masses as The Happy Sign Guy!
Montel is no stranger to the world of innovation and positive messaging as the son of talk show host and businessman, Montel Williams and Grace Morley, a former make-up artist, performer, and entertainment entrepreneur. In conversations with his friends over the years, they often discussed how they could be forces for change and this inspired Montel to put thought into action. “I like to make people happy because there is not enough of it in the world,” he explains. “Why not spread the one thing that drives you, and what drives me is happiness.”
Montel got to work with some markers and signs from Walmart, put down some positive messages, and he has taken to the streets of Las Vegas with his handwritten signs as #The Happy Sign Guy. He engages with passersby and gets people to stop during their hectic days to share a smile, a laugh, and a positive thought. This has become his ‘thing’ and he is committed to spreading peace and unity by showing how this positive force truly connects us. “It’s calling out to all of us to do something, no matter if it’s holding the door for someone, giving somebody a compliment, or standing in the street with a sign!”
His high energy and positive outlook can be traced back to when he was kid. Montel was a sports enthusiast and an avid snow boarder and then developed a passion for the martial arts. Beginning with Jiu Jitsu while a youngster and then competing on the wrestling team in high school, Montel took his interest in nutrition, working out and fighting to the next level while attending college at the University of Las Vegas. While pursuing his college degree, he was approached to turn semi pro in Mixed Martial Arts and became a trainer shortly thereafter.
Now Montel is bringing that energy and discipline he developed in the ring to the streets of Las Vegas, where he seeks out people to share their inner feelings about life by asking them thoughtful questions - What are you most grateful for? Did you tell someone you loved them today? Watch Montel in action and see if his enthusiasm puts you in a happier place!
